I Banned MyBlogLog

by TheMadHat on February 24, 2007

It’s been fun, but the breaking point has been reached. Joining with Andy’s MyBlogLog Boycott, myself and Graywolf, Boser, DigitalGhost, Microsoft everyone else will be removing that thing from our sites.

It was an incredibly stupid reaction they had by banning ShoeMoney just for pointing out something everyone else could see anyway. Why not just say “Thanks for letting us know, we’ve fixed the problem” and move on. Do you think ShoeMoney will be giving you anymore free advice on how to improve your product? I doubt it. Do you think the backlash from that stupid move is going to be a lot worse than just apologizing and fixing it? I think so. Reputation Management 101. What purpose does MyBlogLog really serve anyway? I like the little pictures…but it doesn’t really do anything else. It’s like a well designed MySpace without any functionality.

So after leaving myself open to XSS exploits, JavaScript exploits, bandwidth hogs, giving away advertising, slow load times, and dealing with countless iPhone / Viagra / Gambling / Hoodia / Paris Hilton / Eat at Joe’s / Check out My / Spam / Spam / Spam, it’s leaving my site. I think I’ll keep the Avatars on the comments though; it makes stuff a little less boring. So go leave some comments or something.

Seems they have apologized… and re-instated him. I talked to Andy this earlier and he should jump back on as he was only doing it until ‘they re-instated’ him.

What’s funny is the poor sods that DELETED their accounts in support… once Andy, Schoe, Micheal and all go back… they have to start over.. damned bandwagons

bwaaa ha ha ha ha

:) I figured they might do a little back pedaling after that. I didn’t delete my account, but I’ve been thinking about removing the widget anyway. I did some load time comparisons the other day and it was tripling my load time.

I might put it back on later, but I’m going to wait until I think they have the bugs and the spam problem under control. I guess I gotta figure out some other pointless thing I can put over there in the meantime :)
