Friday Tea Time

by TheMadHat on February 9, 2007

If you're new here, you must subscribe to my RSS feed, or I will hunt you down. Thanks for visiting!

Tea Time people! I’m adding a shot of Jagermeister in this week. Drink up.

* Paris Hilton Rules - I had to start with that one from Brian. Treat your SEO projects like Paris Hilton and buy a hotel conglomerate.

* I was starting to get sick of this Calacanis nonsense, but Neil Patel got him to accept a Calacanis SEO challenge. We all know Neil will win, just make sure Jason writes at least a seven page apology.

* Hate linkbait or love linkbait or who cares just do it? Andy linkbaits the entire industry with the Ultimate Linkbait Guide. In case you people living in a cave missed it or something.

* AdSense lessons from the master SEO Black Hat. Bombs, war, Navy, Milton Bradley, SEO, and Money…what more could you ask for?

* Also from QuadsZilla, who rules the tea time today, Wikipedia for $1,000,000,000?

* Dave, aka theGypsy, aka Mr phrase based indexing has the scoop on phrase based spam detection, or what to avoid when you’re a spammer ;)

* ProBlogger breaks down his top 9 earning programs. Always good to see what the pros are using. Number 6 is my number 1. I’ll have to start testing Chitika as I’m not using it and I keep hearing it pays well.

* Sugarrea has a nice writeup for the n00bs and a good reminder for the pros with post about links and a monkey. Not link monkeys, just links and a monkey.

* Nisan Gabbay of Startup Review writes about what VC’s look for when funding a starup.

* Yo DG!! Where’s Jessica? Hopefully over the flu!

* Last but not least, learn how you must Differentiate Your Blog or Die. According to Brian Clark at Copyblogger anyway. I’d agree…it’s also a tough thing to do.

Online Pharmacy Fuc*ers

by TheMadHat on February 8, 2007

Like I said in a tea time the other day, MyBlogLog has become annoying. I just got thumped with a bunch of private messages from…come on, you know. I mean who couldn’t be friends with “online-pharmacy”? I think I might join his community…”SavePharmacy - Cheap & Save Health Products”. I’d link to his sorry ass with some anchors like “i am total dumb fucking jackass”, but I don’t have enough authority yet to make any difference, so I don’t think I will. Anyway, the lesson here is quite trying to f-ing comment spam SEO blogs you idiot. Hey free-iPhone dude, same thing goes for you.

Disclaimer: It’s 0200 hours in the US, and I can’t sleep.

Disclaimer #2: I still think that guy is an ass. I will tomorrow as well.

Friday Tea Time

by TheMadHat on February 2, 2007

Tea Time everyone!! And it’s still my UnBirthday! Here were my votes for post of the week.

* The advice I always give people that are trying to start out in this business — QuadsZilla sums it up perfectly with Do it fucking now

* My good friend Dave The Gypsy wrote a good one this week. An excellent read on the dismantling of the GoogleBomb and phrase based indexing.

* The other Aaron pushed out some good stuff this week, starting with a post on Google Custom Search and Link opportunities that die. Also early this morning he had a great post on site architecture that I do as well so I know it works. Aaron rules Tea Time this week.

* Rand wrote something I’ve been preaching about for a long time. Thinking ahead. Go read Predicting Search Queries and start getting ahead instead of trying to catch up.

* No Jessica this week on Speaking Freely, but say goodbye to ringtones and say hello to cell phone widgets. Can’t wait for that affiliate program to get going.

* I don’t know who doesn’t read Search Engine Land, but if for some reason you missed it, Nick Wilson has a great write-up on Linking Strategies for sites that are difficult to build links to.

* I originally bookmarked this because it was a little ridiculous, but Zawodny recanted and said he went overboard. Good for him to come clean about Andy Beal spamming. Go and join visit Marketing Pilgrim and learn about SEO. Go visit Zawodny and learn about…I’m not sure. Gliders or something.

* Excellent post from Darren at ProBlogger about Finding New Readers For Your Blog. All great ideas that all serious bloggers should think about.

* Brian following his #2 law with The 5 Immutable Laws of Persuasive Blogging. Enough said…I know you want to read it. He knows too.

* Shoe ranting (again) about LinkedIn.. He rants a lot, but nonetheless I agree with him on this post. LinkedIn is a good concept, but it isn’t bringing me any value either. I may dump it as well.

Have a good weekend, and stay off the damn computer. (I know I say that every week…I’m just talking to myself)

I’m not sure if this has been reported previously, but today my Google personalized home page kept returning 502 errors. Somewhere in between them I saw a red text link up in the left hand corner that read “Add Developer Module”.

Add Developer Module

I clicked on it and it added a widget with links straight into the XML of several of the standard widgets like Google Reader and links to some instructions on tapping into several services like Analytics and scratch pad. Clicking on the more link take you to the Gadget API Google Group where you can get more information on tapping into the API.

Developer Widget

I haven’t had time to play with it yet. Anyone else getting it? The option has already disappeared on my other machines so maybe they were running a little test on it. I might not have noticed but an hour of 502 errors made me take a closer look.

Google Triples Fourth-Quarter Profit

by TheMadHat on February 1, 2007

Triple Profit

I wish they would quit screwing with my Adwords, my Adsense, my Googlebombs, my link purchases, my web surfing in China, my quality score, my paid reviews, my advertising, my spam, my auto-generated pages, my arbitrage, my cloaking, my made for Adsense, and most of all my rankings…dammit.

4th Quarter 2005 —> $372.2 Million
4th Quarter 2006 —> $1.03 Billion

DON’T BE EVIL!!! QUIT BEING EVIL!!!
